Smash and Reset

WallNTRP 3.0–4.010 minvolleyforehandfootwork

Why this drill

Alternating an overhead with a controlled groundstroke rebuild — power, then composure — trains the gear change that follows every real smash that comes back.

Setup

Four to five meters from the wall on a hard surface, net line marked.

The drill

Cycle of three: bounce-smash into the ground-wall ricochet, let the high rebound bounce, then play one soft, controlled drive above the line to reset the rally — catch, and begin again. A full cycle scores one. Sets of five cycles, four sets. The reset ball is the graded part: it must be playable, not a second smash in disguise.

One thought to take on court

After the smash, exhale and soften the grip to a three — the reset is a different player hitting, one who's already calm.
