Why this drill

Pure racquet-and-ball familiarity for new players. Every drill that comes later is easier when the racquet face stops being a stranger — five minutes of this before each session accelerates everything.

Setup

One racquet, one ball, any flat space — court optional.

The drill

Sixty seconds each, counting personal bests: (1) palm-up bounces on the strings; (2) ball-to-ground dribbles with the racquet; (3) alternating string faces on each upward bounce; (4) walk a figure-eight while bouncing ball on strings; (5) self-rally — bounce the ball up high, let it bounce on the ground once, lift it up again, moving in a slow circle.

One thought to take on court

Watch the ball onto the strings — your eyes arrive before your hands.
