Backhand Line Change
Ball machineNTRP 3.0–4.010 minbackhandstrategy
Why this drill
The backhand down the line is the shot that breaks the crosscourt stalemate — struck rarely, and rarely well, because it's never drilled in volume. The machine fixes the volume problem in one session.
Setup
Machine feeding medium balls to the backhand corner. Cone zone deep down the line.
The drill
Rally rhythm in threes: two backhands crosscourt, then one down the line at the cones. Twelve sequences — thirty-six balls. Count line balls that land deep in the zone. The crosscourt pair isn't filler; it rehearses the patience that makes the line change a decision rather than a mood.
One thought to take on court
Take the line ball a half-step earlier than the crosscourt — same swing, earlier contact, and the ball goes straight.
