Rope and Split
SoloNTRP 2.0–4.010 minfitnessfootwork
Why this drill
Jump rope is the tennis player's metronome — light feet, ankle spring, rhythm under fatigue. Punctuated with split-step landings, it becomes sport-specific: the exact elastic bounce a rally asks for, trainable in a garage.
Setup
A jump rope and flat ground. No court needed.
The drill
Eight rounds of twenty seconds work, ten seconds rest: rounds one and two, basic bounce; three and four, alternate-foot running steps; five and six, side-to-side skier hops; seven and eight, basic bounce but on every rest cue, drop the rope handles together and land one crisp split step. Count trips; fewer each week.
One thought to take on court
Stay on the balls of the feet with heels kissing the ground — quiet landings are fast landings.
